NAGAEKE RESIDENCE (Kyoto City–Designated Tangible Cultural Property)NAGAEKE RESIDENCE (Kyoto City–Designated Tangible Cultural Property)
Weaving Together Layers of Life and History
Nagaeke Residence is a traditional Kyoto townhouse quietly preserved in the Shimogyo district.
Rebuilt across the late Edo, Meiji, and Taishō periods, it served both as a merchant’s workplace and as a family home where daily life unfolded.
A long, narrow corridor extending deep into the house and an inner room overlooking a peaceful garden—
these spaces still hold the traces of the people who once lived here, gently interwoven with the history of Kyoto.
Nagae Residence is a place where Kyoto’s “life” and “history” continue to dwell in quiet harmony.
