A 10-minute walk from JR Tambaguchi Station, Rinn Hanayacho sits in a quiet residential area close to the Shimabara Omon, where aspects of the old pleasure quarters remain, as well as Nishi Hongan-ji Temple, a World Cultural Heritage Site.
Consisting of eight buildings, the site exterior has lattices and screens , typical of Kyoto townhouses, and an open-air bath and protruding veranda where you can sit and see the inner garden.
The interior is decorated around the theme of "ancient scholarship" by selecting two famous poems from the Hyakunin Isshu, an anthology of Japanese poetry, for each of the seasons of spring, summer, autumn, and winter, for a total of eight poems for the eight buildings.
The layout of each building differs, so you can experience the detailed and rich sensibilities unique to Japan and think back to the history behind them.
We designed this space to give you a deep and impactful journey of the soul.

(At daybreak, as night gives way to the light, I see a signature sight of winter mornings. The water currents divert around the standing wooden planks and the thick mist cleanly gives way to a clear day.)
